I’ve decided to reconsider the format of this blog. Rather than limiting myself to writing about the exhibits at the Community Arts Center, I have decided to broaden the focus to… well… everything. At least everything arts anyway.
In this new format, I hope to give you a little insight into the artistic mind – (both mine and others) through philosophical discussions about the nature of art and it’s cultural significance. In time, I hope to post interviews with artists, musicians, and writers. As an artist, I work in painting, sculpture, collage, mixed media, digital art, photography, and drawing with an emphasis on found object work. As a musician, I play guitar, I compose original songs, record, and even build my own instruments. The one thing that I have noticed by engaging in all of these activities is that they are all the same thing. In this blog, I hope to finally define the essence of the artist and his drive to create.
Hopefully this blog will be useful as a resource for newer artists that are desiring to gain more exposure by showing their work. As the Program Director of the Community Arts Center in Danville, Kentucky, I hang nearly three new exhibits every month ranging from elementary student work to that of professional artists. I hope to be able to shed some light on the processes that go into creating a successful body of work as well as the steps that you can take to ensure that your work is exhibited at its full potential.
I hope you enjoy the new direction. Feel free to comment, post links to your art (whatever that might be, hopefully not a bunch of spammy ads), and by all means – ask questions. Great art and great artists ask far more questions than they are able to answer.
Thanks,
Brandon Long
